I live in the East Texas area. Currently, there is a wildfire spreading rapidly five miles west from my home. We are a small community...country living as we tend to call it. We have a volunteer fire department and one fire truck. Unfortunately, we are not afforded the luxuries of fire hydrants (country living con) and so volunteers are shoveling dirt and making trenches to contain the spreading. My husband attempted to donate his time earlier this evening only to find that over half of the town was already there and assisting. Also present was the Forestry Services of New Mexico. Please do all that you can to help our urban and rural communities in Texas. Thank you. ~IllicitWriter

Please help me spread the word that donations to the Red Cross are desperately needed to help the victims of the Texas wildfires. Most of the fires are completely out of control, several miles wide, and jumping rivers & highways. Tens of thousands of acres have burned and hundreds of homes have been lost in the Austin area, while dozens more burn around the state. The attached pic is the area where I grew up -- that single fire has burned for two days now and is still 0% contained despite 1.2 million gallons of water being dropped.

These fires are not burning out in unpopulated areas -- they are burning through subdivisions, schools, business, and even one of the local zoos, and several in our fandom have been forced to pack their cars and run. Please help if you can.
